About ScamGuard PK
We're on a mission to protect Pakistani consumers from the growing threat of online shopping scams.
Our Story
ScamGuard PK was born out of a simple frustration that millions of Pakistani online shoppers share: how do you know if an online store is legitimate before you send them your money?
Online shopping in Pakistan has exploded in recent years, with thousands of new stores appearing on Instagram, Facebook, and standalone websites every month. While this has created incredible convenience, it has also created a playground for scammers. According to the FIA Cyber Crime Wing, online fraud complaints in Pakistan increased by over 300% between 2020 and 2024, with online shopping scams being the most common type.
The problem is particularly acute on social media platforms. Instagram and Facebook shops can be set up in minutes with stolen product photos and fake reviews. They often offer branded products at impossibly low prices, collect payments through bank transfers or mobile wallets, and then either disappear entirely or send cheap knockoffs that look nothing like what was advertised.
ScamGuard PK uses artificial intelligence to analyze online stores in real-time. When you submit a URL, our AI searches the web for customer reviews, complaints, business registration records, domain history, and social media signals. It then synthesizes all this data to provide a trust score and detailed analysis that helps you make an informed decision.
How Our AI Detection Works
Our analysis process examines multiple trust signals simultaneously:
- Web Presence Analysis: We search for the store across review sites, complaint forums, and consumer protection databases to find what real customers are saying.
- Business Registration: We check whether the business is registered with SECP (Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan) or has any official business documentation.
- Domain & Social Media Age: Newly created websites and social media accounts are flagged as higher risk, since scam stores typically have a very short lifespan.
- Payment Method Analysis: Stores that refuse Cash on Delivery and only accept prepaid bank transfers or mobile wallet payments are flagged as potentially risky.
- Content Quality: Our AI examines the quality of product descriptions, images, and overall website design. Scam stores often use generic templates and stolen product photos.
- Customer Complaint Patterns: We look for patterns in complaints such as non-delivery, fake products, and refusal to process returns.
